About

This is not a blog by a young couple, scantily clad in swim shorts and bikinis with perfectly tanned bodies, telling you about their amazing life in the Bahamas. Nor is it a “How to sail” guide. Like most people who take to the water, I mainly made it up as I went along, although I did manage to get an RYA Day Skipper ticket. I’m also a Power Boat Handling Instructor and Diver Coxn Assessor, qualifications obtained from my other obsession, scuba diving.

I am in my early 60’s and have been sailing since I was 14, starting with a foam moulded dinghy my Dad bought from an offer in the Daily Mirror. We then progressed to a wooden Enterprise dingy, which was used on family holidays on the Welsh coast and various lakes throughout the country.

After a long layoff due to family and work responsibilities I took the plunge in 2001 and purchased an elderly Macwester 22, “Taschi” from Nationwide Boat Sales and based her in the Conwy River, where I’ve been ever since. Various other family (and not so family) cruisers followed, finally ending with our current Moody 34, Spellbound.

Skipper & Dog

Sailing has been mainly confined to areas around the North Welsh coast with longer trips to Ireland, Isle Of Man and Scotland.

Hopefully with semi-retirement around the corner plans will include Scottish Islands, a trip slowly around the British Coastline and further afield to France and the Mediterranean. Who knows, if time permits, I might make it as far as the Atlantic Islands.

I will be accompanied by my two year old Cocker Spaniel, Nell as well as occasionally by my wife, Jane, son Jack and other family members.
